Project Description:
This project brought together 36 of the best emerging young Azerbaijani creative women in Azerbaijan, both visual artists and literary writers, for a workshop, exhibition and reading, and book publication. The project facilitated a space for these creative women to work together and respond to each other’s pieces on Azerbaijani women’s lives and issues of gender equity, thereby supporting and building creative “conversation” and awareness on themes of contemporary Azerbaijani women’s lives – their challenges and achievements. The project participants creatively showcased today’s Azerbaijani women in all their roles and activities in the global world: at work, with their families, as leaders, change agents, and as artists. The exhibition of “artistic conversation” on the lives of women in Azerbaijan today was displayed in Baku, and if funding allows, in the United States, to coincide with International Women’s Day. The resulting book publication would be distributed to secondary schools and universities in Azerbaijan and selected university libraries around the world.
The Aim of the Project
To support and spark conversations among Azerbaijani women addressing local and global issues in gender equity.
To raise national and international awareness of achievements by women today in Azerbaijan.
To build and support ongoing creative capacity and reciprocal creative relationships in the women’s artistic and literary communities in Azerbaijan.
To support and help foster a vibrant, socially relevant contemporary culture of art and literature in Azerbaijan, in which women are recognized as key participants.
To develop, support, and encourage emerging young women artists and literary writers in Azerbaijan.
