Azerbaijan has a rich tradition of regional socially and politically relevant literature, including much by women. Since independence, economic, political and social reorganization has led to a challenging literary arts environment, particularly for women. Literature can serve as a mirror to a nation and society; we see with new eyes the way things are and also begin to imagine the ways they can be—both critical steps on the road to a more open and vital society.

Within the framework of the project an art exhibition of the Azerbaijani and U.S. woman artists was organized at George Mason University. Nagorno- Karabakh topic was highlighted during the exhibition. U.S 501(c)3 cultural charity foundation- the Karabakh Foundation in Washington DC was partnering Sonmaz Mashal CRPU to successfully organize the exhibition.

The paintings by the young woman artists of Azerbaijan Narmina Valiyeva, Zahra Mammadova, Ayan Nabiyeva, Roza Alakbarova and Sofiya Rasulova were demonstrated at the exhibition organized in Abi Dhabi in October, 2017.

This project brought together 36 of the best emerging young Azerbaijani creative women in Azerbaijan, both visual artists and literary writers, for a workshop, exhibition and reading, and book publication.
